Atomic is the vision of Dan & Kerry Balog, who moved to Nashville in early 2009 from Baltimore Maryland, where the inspiration for Atomic Nashville began. The Balog’s were regular shoppers at the venerable bookstore, Atomic Books, where film director John Waters has been famously receiving his fan mail for years.
After re-locating to Nashville, Dan & Kerry asked the owners of Atomic Books, Benn Ray and Rachel Whang, if they’d be willing to consult them in the creation of Atomic Nashville. Benn and Rachel agreed, and the search was on for the right Nashville retail space to house the new store.
East Nashville/Inglewood was choice #1 from the beginning, but retail storefronts were considered all over Nashville until the location at 1603 Riverside Drive became available. The East Side seems to share the owners’ own eclectic cultural sensibility. In addition to a well curated and quirky book selection, Atomic Nashville carries a slew of interesting gifts, toys and novelties.
The store also stocks an ever-growing selection of music and art from Nashville/Mid-TN based artists.
Our Location – 1603 Riverside Dr, Nashville, TN 37216
Dan began working in the music business in 1987 when he began both a radio career, and his first working rock band in Winston Salem, NC. That began more than 25 years of working various radio jobs in multiple cities, while at the same time, playing and writing music in a variety of musical outfits. Dan left the radio business in 2008 prior to making the move to Nashville. While planning the eventual creation of Atomic Nashville, Dan worked in the music P.R. world, and briefly promoted the visionary West Coast luthier Stephen McSwain’s company, McSwain Guitars.
